Styling Tips

Your favorite style is probably a wash and go

  • An easy easy way to achieve this is to follow your every day wash routine, apply the your favorite products and then use a ceramic blow dryer with a diffuser attachment
  • Another quick and easy style you can do is pin it up on both sides or just one your curls fall on the sides
  • A quick lazy or bad hairday style you can do is to simply pull it back into a a high ponytail, you can also lay your edges if you'd like
  • You would most likely want to follow the same steps as 3A, but cater to your own volume and density
  • Use the "pineapple" method while drying your hair to help define your curls and prevent frizz.
  • Co-wash at least twice a week
  • Deep condition frequently! This will keep your curls moisturized and bouncy
  • As lack of volume is not necessarily your biggest problem, you can use a heavier product for a better hold. Still use in moderation though

Products

  • Trader Joe's shampoo and conditioner
  • Green Tea Restructurizer
  • Mixed Chicks leave-in conditioner
  • Chi Deep Brilliance Reflect oil for maximum volume and defined curls
  • Hair cleansing cream
  • Too Shea Extra moisturizing conditioner
  • Rockin Ringlets style potion
  • Confident coils styling solution.
  • Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Manfura oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo and matching conditioner
  • If you're using a diffuser, the recommended curl cream is Oyin Handmade Shine and Define cream. If you're air drying, try using Josh Rosebrook styling cream.

Do's

  • Rich creams and butters will help keep your hair moisturized
  • Deep condition frequently!
  • Trim ends every 3 or so months
  • Moisturize and tie up your hair before sleeping. A satin bonnet, cap, or pillowcase is best
  • Use products with a lighter hold and weight as this will keep your curls bouncy
  • Use nutrient based products rather than products that contain excessive amounts of alcohol to retain moisture
  • Seal in moisture with oil on wash day and nightly
  • Your hair does not have a curl pattern, so you will have to use a braid-out, twist-out or some other defining style to get some curl definition
  • You have the most fragile hair type, so your best bet to grow your hair out will be using protective styles
  • Do not forget to deep condition regularly, it is an essential with all hair types

Dont's

  • Co-washing may weigh your hair down, go light on product usage
  • Using heavy styling creams and products will also weight your hair down and make it appear limp
  • Stay away from products with sulfates, silicones, parabens, and alcohol
  • Less is more when applying oils and products in general to your hair. Be careful not to weigh it down
  • Do not use too much heat, as tempting as it may be
  • Avoid styling or using any styling tools on your hair if it is dry. This will result in frizz, breakage, and more dryness
